The Local Area
Umberleigh
village is a short walk away but if going on foot, please remember
to turn right at the site entrance and walk up the hill. At the
top next to the seat turn left onto the bridle way and this will
bring you down a steep hill next to the Rising Sun pub.The
village has a Post Office in the square, with a general outdoor
clothing shop and antique shop across the road.
At the entrance to the caravan park,
there is a bus stop for 6 buses a day to Barnstaple or Exeter.
There
is also a railway station on the Tarka Line from where you can catch
a train to Barnstaple or Exeter. From 2009, there is an hourly service.
Atherington village 1 mile in the direction
of Torrington has a Post Office with a shop and tearooms. The church
in the village has services though not necessarily every Sunday.

Fishleigh Farmhouse Foods (1 mile in
the direction of Barnstaple) has a shop selling local meat, award
winning pasties and vegetables.
The petrol station 1 mile in the direction
of Barnstaple also has a shop with a wide range of goods. Opening
hours 7a.m.- 10.00p.m Monday to Saturday, 8a.m.-9.00p.m. Sunday
EATING OUT
A Fish and Chip van calls on the site on Tuesday evenings at 7.15p.m.
In high season, be prepared for a bit of a queue!
The Rising Sun in Umberleigh village is the only pub or restaurant
within walking distance but remember to take a torch for the return
trip up the rather steep hill. There is bar food and also a restaurant
if you want a grander meal.
The Bell in Chittlehampton (2 miles)
also serves good value pub food.
